“Not really happy with my performance, 40s and 50s is nothing”: Prithvi Shaw on his current form in Ranji Trophy 2022

With an underwhelming performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022, young India opener and Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw admitted that he didn't have the best start to the domestic season this year.

Despite getting a start in a couple of innings, Mumbai captain Shaw failed to reach the three-digit mark. The return of the Ranji Trophy provided opportunities for a number of players who were looking to reclaim their place in the team. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, who was recently dropped from the Test squad after poor performances in recent months, are also on the list.

Rahane and Pujara, on the other hand, we're unable to have a significant impact on their respective teams.

Shaw, who has scored 9, 44, and 53 in the Ranji Trophy 2022 so far, expressed dissatisfaction with his performances.

“Not really happy with my performance, should have been much better. You know 40s and 50s is nothing in cricket. But I feel it’s okay. I have been batting well and am feeling that something special is just around the corner," Shaw told Sportstar.

Shaw is now concentrating on the Indian Premier League, where he will open the innings for the Delhi Capitals. He is, however, confident in his ability to return to form in red-ball cricket following the IPL.

“Definitely, it’s a long break. The next two and half months, many will shift focus to the IPL and will be playing white-ball. It’s going to be a matter of how we switch on again in the red-ball mode once the IPL is over," added Shaw.

“We will have to train hard in that short window just like we did for the league stage. It will be harder because you cannot take anyone for granted and all the teams are quality oppositions. It will be an opportunity for all of us to play the knockouts and do our best for Mumbai."

Shaw, who made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in 2018, has 339 runs at a 42.37 average in five matches. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2020, he last played for India against Australia.
