Former Australia World Cup-winning captain Michael Clarke has said that Indian team management should not lose faith in young Prithvi Shaw and even compared him to dashing former opener Virender Sehwag. 

Prithvi Shaw had made his Test debut for India as an 18-year-old against West Indies, scoring a brilliant century as well. However, since then he struggled to hold onto his place in the Indian team owing to injuries and poor outing against Australia in the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Clarke lauded Shaw as a special talent and wishes Indian team kept faith in him as he plays the Virender Sehwag brand of cricket.

"He is a terrific player like Sehwag. Sehwag was a genius, who took the game forward. For someone like me, I love that brand of cricket. That aggressive batsman at the top of the order. That's why Sehwag was one of my favorite players. I would like to see India keep faith in him, a player like Prithvi Shaw, knowing he is young," Clarke said in the documentary 'Down Underdogs' on Sony Ten.

Clarke thought it was wrong to have such high expectations on Shaw after his performances in Australia, where he was dismissed for 0 and 2 in the day-night Test in Adelaide.

Shaw was also a member of India's touring team for the 2018-19 series but was unable to play due to an ankle injury sustained during a practice game. Shaw played his first Test in Australia two years later, and it was also his last until now.

"It was very hard to have too much expectations from Prithvi Shaw. He needed more time. It was his first opportunity in Australia. You want to give him every change to see how he goes but unfortunately, he missed out in that Test match in Adelaide. It was his first tour of Australia, and I have no doubt he will come good," Clarke pointed out.
