Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez, who announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this January, was not happy with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) recent decisions and the appointment process of former captain Ramiz Raja as PCB chief.
Recently, the former all-rounder questioned the appointment process of the PCB chairman, as Raja was elected by Pakistan Prime Minister and patron of cricket board Imran Khan, saying the chairman of the board should be elected through proper elections.
He also criticized the PCB’s decision to reduce the number of teams in domestic cricket, saying the abolishment of the departmental and bank teams left many domestic cricketers jobless and without any future.
The decision to reduce the teams in domestic cricket was taken with the consultation of PM Imran Khan.
Hafeez said on Geo News channel: “The present process is not correct because presently the PCB Chairman was elected under a selection system and the procedure for selection of PCB chairman is not right.”
The 41-year-old added, “The PCB Chairman comes on political grounds and the chairman who comes politically does not understand cricket at all.”
Notably, Hafeez represented Pakistan in 55 Tests, 218 ODIs, and 119 T20Is. His last appearance for Pakistan was in the World T20 Cup 2021 in the UAE.
