India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar said that it has been a long wait for the Indian cricket fans to see another ICC trophy in the cabinet. India's last ICC trophy win came in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
Before that India won the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007.
The legendary cricketer further said that he and the entire country would love to see Team India win another ICC trophy whether be it T20 World Cup or ODI World Cup. Notably, the next edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be held in Australia while India will be hosting the ODI World Cup in 2023.
Tendulkar told Boria Majumdar on his YouTube show 'Backstage with Boria': “In the month of April this year, we'll complete 11 years of World Cup win. That's a long wait.”
He continued, “Everyone including me would love to see that trophy in BCCI's cabinet. This is one trophy that all the cricketers play for. It doesn't get any bigger than that... be it a shorter or longer format. World Cup is something special and that's what I feel.”
Meanwhile, the leadership has changed in Indian cricket with all eyes are on the new head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma, and Tendulkar lauded the duo.
He signed off by saying, “Rohit & Rahul is a fantastic pair. I know that guys would give their best shot and prepare to the best of their ability. You have so many people backing you. It's all about having that support at the right time.
Of course, everyone has played enough cricket. Rahul has played enough cricket to understand there are gonna be ups and downs along the way. Not to lose hope is the only thing. Keep trying and we will keep moving forward.”
