Former Indian selector Sarandeep Singh was shocked by Virat Kohli's statements in the press conference, saying that things shouldn't have gone wrong the way they did.
Sarandeep Singh’s comments came after the Indian Test skipper in a virtual press conference on Wednesday (15th December) revealed that there was no prior communication and he was informed 1.5 hours before the BCCI released an official statement to sack him as ODI skipper.
What makes Kohli’s press-conference shocking is that his statements didn’t match with what Sourav Ganguly said a few days ago. The BCCI President said that he personally requested the Indian Test skipper to not give up the T20I captaincy but the latter denied it.

After Kohli’s presser, many fans and pundits criticised BCCI as they felt that the governing body treated him harshly.
Speaking to ANI, Sarandeep Singh backed BCCI, saying that the governing body doesn’t play any role in the selection process as it’s the duty of the selection committee to select the players and appoint the skipper.
He added that the statements given by Virat Kohli in the presser were shocking and that things shouldn’t have gone wrong the way they did.
"It is the duty of the selection committee to select the players and appoint the captain. BCCI does not play any role in the selection process. The statements given by Virat in the press conference today were a bit shocking. Things shouldn't have gone wrong the way they did," Sarandeep Singh said.
Even though Singh personally feels that there shouldn’t be different captains in the two white-ball formats, he admitted that things could’ve been done in a professional manner and Virat Kohli should’ve been informed earlier about his sacking as the Indian ODI skipper.
He added that everything should be sorted as it can cause harm to Indian cricket.
“Personally, I feel that there should not be two captains in white-ball cricket. The things could have been handled in a more professional manner and Virat should have been informed earlier. All I want is that everything should be sorted because this can cause harm to Indian cricket," he said.

Sarandeep further dismissed the rumours regarding the rift between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, saying that both are mature players and have never raised questions against each other. He added that both the players have won many matches for the country and their combination is great.
"Rohit and Virat both are mature players and captains. They have never raised any questions against each other and both of them know how to tackle such situations. Even if they would not be such good friends, they would still play for the country. Both the players have won so many matches for India and their combination is great," he said.
