The rumors of a rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been a major talking point in the Indian cricket fraternity lately. The reports of Kohli skipping the ODI series on the South Africa tour after being removed from white-ball captaincy only fanned the fire before it was confirmed he would play the ODIs.

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur was asked to speak on the alleged rift between India's star players, Rohit and Kohli. He responded by saying that nobody is bigger than the sport and he can't give out information about what's happening between two players.

"Sports is supreme and nobody is bigger than sport. I can't you give information as to what's going on between which players in what game. It's the job of concerned federations/associations. It'll be better if they give info," he said.

Recently, former Indian captain, Mohammad Azharuddin had made a tweet around the alleged rift. While Kohli was said to be unavailable for the ODI series, Rohit is going to miss the Test series due to injury.

Azharuddin felt the timing of both the cricketers missing the series is wrong and it's only escalating the rumors. "Virat Kohli has informed that he's not available for the ODI series and Rohit Sharma is unavailable for the upcoming test.

"There is no harm in taking a break but the timing has to be better. This just substantiates speculation about the rift. Neither will be giving up the other form of cricket," he had tweeted.
