Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi is looking forward to the captaincy stint of Rohit Sharma after Virat Kohli stepped down as captain of India's T20I team. Kohli had announced that T20 World Cup 2021 is going to be his last tournament as captain in the shortest format, and it was expected that Rohit will take over.

Rohit will lead the Indian team in the T20I series against New Zealand at home later this month. Afridi believes we will get to see two sides of the newly appointed India's T20I captain.

The ex-Pakistan captain has played with Rohit in the first session of IPL for Deccan Chargers. "As far as Rohit is concerned, this was on the cards. I have played with him for a year (at Deccan Chargers). He is an outstanding player with a terrific shot selection.

"He stays relaxed where required and shows anger when needed to as well. We will see both sides. Like I said, this captaincy move was bound to happen. He should definitely be given a chance," Afridi said on Samaa TV.

The 44-year-old further gave advice to Kohli and said he should continue featuring in the team as a player. "I think Virat should take the decision to continue as only a player. There will be relatively less pressure, he has played plenty of cricket too.

"He will enjoy his cricket and batting because captaining a team is not easy, especially in countries like India and Pakistan. As long as you are captaining well, things go smooth," he added.
