Sri Lanka’s legendary fast bowler Lasith Malinga recently announced retirement from all formats of the game. He retired with 390 wickets to his name in 295 international matches.
Malinga is the highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League with 170 scalps, all for Mumbai Indians, and MI skipper Rohit Sharma who has led his team to five IPL trophies took to Twitter and lauded Lasith Malinga for an amazing career.
“Mali, you have been a champion cricketer. Well done on your wonderful career. Best wishes ahead @ninety9sl,” the Mumbai-based cricketer wrote on Twitter.

Sri Lanka fast bowler retired from Tests in 2011 and later retired from ODIs in July 2019. The 38-year-old played 30 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 84 T20Is for Sri Lanka in which he picked 546 wickets (101 in Tests, 338 in ODIs, and 107 in T20Is) across formats.

Malinga remains the highest wicket-taker in the T20Is, even though the Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is just one wicket away from equaling his record.
“Today is a very special day for me because I want to thank each and everyone who has supported me and blessed me throughout my T20 career. Today I decided, I want to give 100 percent rest for my T20 bowling shoes,” Malinga said.
“I want to thank the Sri Lanka cricket board and my team members. I want to thank Mumbai Indians cricket team and team members, especially the owners and the officials, Melbourne Stars, Kent Cricket Club, Rangpur Riders, Guyana Warriors, Maratha Arabians and Montreal Tigers,” he added.
