Kohli one of the best, but current Indian batting not strong as Tendulkar, Dravid and co: Warne

Warne added that Kohli and Rohit are two standout players in current Indian batting lineup.

The 'fab five' of Indian batting in early 2000s | TwitterLegendary Australian spinner Shane Warne stirred up a storm by saying the current Indian batting line-up is nowhere near the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, and Virender Sehwag who played in Warne's era.

India has a good opener in Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul also came good on the recent England tour, but the middle order of captain Virat Kohli, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara failed to support the openers. Though Rahane and Pujara have been pillars of Indian batting, they have had a terrible last two years with the bat.

Warne compared the current Indian batting with the legends of the previous generation and found them to be subpar. He picked Virat Kohli as one of the best batsmen in the world today, but the rest couldn't match up to Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman, Sehwag and co.

"Their batting is nowhere near as strong as Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Tendulkar, Sehwag. Virat Kohli is one of the best batsmen on the planet, if not the best across all forms, but when you see that top five of Sehwag, Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar, that isn't bad. I don't think you can say that it's the best batting Indian side," Warne said while speaking to Sky Sports.

Warne, who has 708 Test wickets to his name, added that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were the two standout batsmen in the current team. He also predicted wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant to be a superstar in the future. The spin wizard concluded by saying Indian pacers have enabled the team to win in any conditions.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two standout players, and I think Rishabh Pant will be a superstar down the track. But I think it is their fast bowlers that have elevated India to be able to win in all conditions and not just in India,” he added.
