Reports have suggested that the Afghanistan cricket team will travel to India for a Test series in the first quarter of 2022 after the Taliban gave a green signal to all cricketing activities in the country amid the chaos and violence as they seized power in August.
On Thursday, September 2, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) CEO Hamid Shinwari confirmed to Indian Express that the Taliban government will support the national cricket team and all their scheduled games will be held as planned, including the Australia tour and the T20 World Cup 2021.
Shinwari revealed that there is a possibility of the Afghanistan team visiting India for a Test series early in 2022.

As reported by the Indian Express, Shinwari said: “The Taliban government has been supporting cricket and all our cricket will be held as per schedule. A spokesperson of the Taliban Cultural Commission communicated to us that the Taliban will be supporting the Test match against Australia followed by a Test series against India in the first quarter of 2022.”
He added, “They (Taliban) are supporting cricket and we have got the green signal from them. It’s a clear message to the youth that they will support sports. That is the best sign.”
On the future of women’s cricket in Afghanistan under the Taliban government, the ACB CEO said: “We don’t know at the moment. The government will decide on it.”
He signed off by saying on Afghanistan’s upcoming assignments, “We are working for a T20 tri-series, which will feature Afghanistan, West Indies, and Sri Lanka. Most probably, it will be held in UAE before the T20 World Cup. We will have a camp, most probably in Qatar, for our national team before the tri-series.”
