New Zealand cricketers have traveled to Bangladesh for the upcoming five-match T20I series slated to begin from September 1. But the Kiwis have to first deal with a shock of their batsmen Finn Allen testing positive for COVID-19 on arrival in the country.
Allen who represented the Birmingham Phoenix in England’s Hundred tournament is fully vaccinated and had cleared all the pre-departure tests in England and the right-hander’s COVID-19 diagnosis came 48 hours after arrival in Dhaka.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) clarified that the wicket-keeper batsman will be quarantined in his room as he is experiencing moderate symptoms and will be receiving treatment from BCB’s chief medical officer.
“He has been quarantined at the team's hotel and immediate advice is that he is experiencing moderate symptoms. Allen is receiving treatment from the Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief medical officer, has been in contact with NZC’s chief medical officer, and will be monitored during his stay in quarantine by BLACKCAPS doctor Pat McHugh,” New Zealand Cricket said in a statement.
As far as the T20I series is concerned, it is scheduled from September 1 to 10 with all five matches to be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
While the second-leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is scheduled to get underway from September 19 in UAE, New Zealand Cricket chief had confirmed the availability of Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson, and other Kiwi stars for yet another IPL stint in the middle-east.
