Less pay for more screen time than Australian players in docu-series ‘The Test’ upsets Justin Langer – Report

As per a report in Australian media, Langer is not pleased with the payment of fees for the documentary series "The Test" and it is a root cause of the difference between him and the Aussie players.

"The Test" is an eight-part documentary that was released in March 2020, showing Australian cricket team’s journey from the 2018 ball-tampering scandal in South Africa to Ashes glory in 2019.

While Langer was given the most screen time in the docu-series, he was reportedly paid AU$ (Australian dollars) 40,000 which was half of what the players received.

Apparently, Langer had signed the deal with Amazon Prime on his own whereas the players' deal was cut by Australian Cricketers Association, who managed to secure AU$81,000 for each player irrespective of the time they spent on camera.

As a result, Jack Wildermuth, who spent little time on camera, was paid as much as leading names such as Steve Smith, David Warner, Tim Paine, Pat Cummins among others.

Speaking to Sydney Morning Herald, Langer has confirmed that he is upset and should have reacted differently.

"You are absolutely correct in what you heard, and if I look back at that moment in time and with hindsight I should have reacted differently," he said.

In the wake of the India series loss, reports have emerged that everything is not well between the Australian cricketers and Langer. It was said that Langer’s intense “micro-management” coaching style is not liked by a lot of players.
