As the Indian contingent has reached Tokyo on Sunday (July 18) for the Tokyo Olympics 2020, former Indian captain and Indian cricket board (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly wished good luck to all the participants in the global event, which will be played from July 23-August 08.

A 228-member Indian contingent, comprising 127 athletes, and the rest of them are support staff and other IOA representatives, are in Tokyo for the upcoming Olympics 2020.

The Olympics was to take place last year, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the global event by a year. Since the nationwide lockdown didn’t allow many athletes to train outdoors due to the Coronavirus outbreak in India, but the players still managed to prepare themselves for the big challenge in Tokyo.

However, the extra year of preparations has surely given the athletes much hope to win the top honors for the nation at the Olympics and Ganguly made sure to boost their confidence ahead of the global event as he shared an inspirational video for India contingent on Wednesday, July 21.

Noteworthy, the Olympic Games will be conducted behind closed doors in Tokyo while the strict surveillance of the COVID-19 health protocols will be in place due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Earlier, India cricket icons like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Mithali extended their best wishes to the Indian athletes by cheering them on social media and the BCCI President joined the bandwagon by sharing a motivational message for the athletes on Twitter.

Ganguly wrote on Twitter: “Good wishes to all the participants at the Tokyo Olympics...It is time to get the results for the years of training and sacrifices…it will happen.”
