India batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming Royal London Cup. He was part of the Lancashire squad but an injury during the ODI series against England earlier this year has made him miss the 50-over tournament.

Iyer hasn't completely recovered from the injury and BCCI, in a discussion with the Lancashire club, agreed that he would remain in India ahead of his return to cricket.

The 26-year-old hopes to play for Lancashire at some point in his career after missing out on the opportunity this time. He said, “I am gutted to not be able to play for Lancashire this summer, a Club that has such history and ambition. I hope to play at Emirates Old Trafford for Lancashire at some point in the future.”

Director of Cricket, Paul Allott said they are disappointed but Lancashire respects the decision. “We are obviously very disappointed, as we were thoroughly looking forward to welcoming Shreyas to Emirates Old Trafford.

“Ultimately Shreyas’ long-term fitness is of paramount importance and Lancashire Cricket fully respects the decision.

“We wish Shreyas all the best with the remainder of his recovery, and from the conversations which I have had with the player, believe that this is an arrangement he would be keen to revisit again in the future.”

Iyer, who had dislocated his left shoulder while fielding during the limited-overs series against England, is likely to fully recover before the Indian Premier League and 2021 T20 World Cup later this year.
