West Indies limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard said that spinner Sunil Narine will make his comeback to international cricket once he regains confidence in his bowling action.
After being thumped by South Africa in the Test series, West Indies are taking on South Africa in a five-match T20I series. The series has been leveled 1-1 after South Africa won the second match comfortably.
With experienced cricketers like Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo being named in their squad, Sunil Narine’s name was missing and many feel that veteran spinner should make comeback on the national side.
Sunil Narine last represented the West Indies in a T20I in 2019, was reported for suspect bowling action during IPL 2020 but was subsequently cleared and also played four games in the suspended IPL 2021.
Referring to the same, West Indies limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard said that Sunil Narine has indicated that he is still not ready to feature in the national team and will only return once he gets his confidence back in bowling action.
“He (Narine) had indicated to the selectors that he might have been available after the IPL. Then, the IPL was cut short halfway through so he might not have got the necessary preparation or confidence in his action, so he indicated that he is still not ready. We’ll play it by ear as we go along," Kieron Pollard told ESPNcricinfo.
While talking about West Indies’ preparations for the T20 World Cup, Kieron Pollard said that their results in ICC tournaments are good and he would not want to change that.
“Our results in ICC tournaments are good and I wouldn’t want to change that. It’s just that when it comes to these kinds of (bilateral) series, it’s about having the guys available or not. In World Cups, we tend to get the guys we want to have to play, playing,” he said.
