India’s young rising star Shubman Gill has recently revealed that he and Australia speedster Pat Cummins were involved in some interesting banter throughout the 2020-21 Test series down under earlier this year.

India’s memorable and historic Test series triumph in Australia was the turning point for Gill as he has been a constant in India’s Test line-up since then, played in the home series against England and now traveled to the UK for the WTC 2021 Final against New Zealand starting on June 18 in Southampton and for a Test series against the hosts starting on August 4.

Making his Test debut for Team India in MCG Test, Gill scored a terrific 259 runs from three Tests at an average of 51.80, including two half-centuries. He also scored a brilliant 91 to help India secure a famous win at the Gabba and clinch the historic Tests series in Australia.

Ahead of the WTC Final against New Zealand, Gill revealed that he and Cummins had a pretty good bond when they were playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), but once they represent their country, the relations turn competitive on the field.

Gill told The Grade Cricketer Podcast in a conversation: “So, I and Patty were there in KKR. We were teammates there and had a pretty good bond. I remember he gave an interview to the KKR management saying that ‘we’ll have the chin music going on' or something like that. And then when I was batting, he was continuously trying to bounce me and I was leaving them.”

The right-hander further added, “After the match, there was a press conference where I said ‘if they have their chin music, we know the moves to dance to that’. So the banter was going on and he would go ‘where are your dance moves now?”

Noteworthy, Gill and Cummins are teammates playing together for KKR in the IPL 14 where the franchise slip to seventh on the points table with only four points out of seven. In seven matches, Gill scored 132 runs, while Cummins picked up nine wickets along with a brilliant knock of 66* against CSK.
