Chetan Sakariya reveals his main aim is to play Test cricket for India

Chetan Sakariya was named in India's squad that will tour Sri Lanka in July.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Saurashtra pacer Chetan Sakariya has said that his main goal is to represent Team India in Test cricket.

Chetan Sakariya was amongst the players who impressed everyone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. His heroics in the tournament earned him the maiden national call-up for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

Team India is scheduled to play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs on the tour which will be played from July 13th to 25th. 

The squad saw the likes of Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana and K Gowtham along with Chetan Sakariya receiving their maiden India call-ups.

In an interaction with Sports Today, left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya revealed that his main aim is to play Test cricket for India as it is challenging like life. 

"My ultimate aim is to play Test cricket for India. I want to play Test cricket for a long period. Test cricket is like life; it throws genuine challenges at you. Test cricket challenges you on every front,” Chetan Sakariya told Sports Today. 

Recently, Chetan Sakariya lost his father to COVID-19 while his brother committed suicide before the IPL 2021 auction. The left-arm admitted that he owes his success to IPL, which gave him financial support during difficult times.

"IPL gave me financial support. IPL is a very important part of my life, and I owe my success to IPL,” he said. 

Chetan Sakariya further said that his stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as a net bowler during IPL 2020 charged his mindset and gave him confidence as he learned how to execute his plans. 

“My stint with RCB changed my mindset and gave me confidence when I was bowling to the world's best at the RCB camp. I learned how to execute my plans, and it did wonders to me," he said. 

Chetan Sakariya impressed everyone in the first phase of IPL 2021, the-23-year-old uncapped left-arm pacer played seven matches and bagged seven wickets, including those of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and MS Dhoni.
