ENG v PAK 2021: Pakistan won’t air white-ball series as Indian company holds broadcast rights

Pakistan are due to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in England from July 8 to July 20.

Pakistan are slated to tour England next month | GettyAfter the completion of the second leg of PSL 2021, Pakistan cricket team will depart for England for a limited-overs series.

During the tour, Pakistan will play three ODIs and as many T20Is from July 8 to July 20 but the series won’t be broadcasted by Pakistan television.

Pakistan’s federal minister for information Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday (June 8) revealed Pakistan television will be unable to telecast the upcoming six white-ball matches as Indian companies hold the broadcasting rights in South Asia.

Chaudhry further said business with Indian companies will resume only after the Government of India retracts the decision taken on August 5, 2019.

Notably, India on the aforementioned date had revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution, and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories.

“Indian companies hold the rights to broadcast [matches] in South Asia …. and we cannot conduct business with any Indian company,” Chaudhry was quoted as saying by Geo News.

The information minister admitted that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PTV will suffer considerable losses as a result of this.

Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) holds the broadcasting rights for the matches played in England.

Meanwhile, this development has left the Pakistan cricket fans dejected and they vented their frustration on social media.
