Mohammad Amir is one of the best bowlers Pakistan has produced in recent times and thus, former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram criticized the national team management and selectors for ignoring the left-arm quick in the shortest format.
“I am very surprised because Amir is a very experienced bowler and one of the best in the world in T20 cricket. Personally, I think he should be in Pakistan’s World T20 squad,” Akram told a TV channel.
Amir retired from the longest format in 2019, but plays for the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where Akram is the head coach and director of the franchise.
The left-arm quick was criticized heavily when he announced retirement from the Test cricket, but the former Pakistan pacer backed Amir saying it was his own business and no one should take offense to that.
“Other players have done it but no one says anything about them. So why Amir? I think if he is available for other formats, he should be playing for Pakistan,” he said.
Amir has not played for the national cricket team since last year after his fall out with the Pakistan team head coach. Even Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis have maintained that he will not play for the national team until they remain in charge.
The 54-year-old then talked about how fast bowlers hunt in packs and that is the reason why bowler like Mohammad Amir is required in the Pakistan side.
“In World Cup events you need experienced bowlers who can also advise and guide the younger bowlers. We need to have more impact players in the T20 squad, those who can play without fear of failure only then can we do well,” Akram signed off.
