Afghanistan is likely to host Pakistan for a limited-overs series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in August-September ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are reportedly discussing the white-ball series to take place in August and September this year in the UAE.

The white-ball series, comprising three One Day Internationals and as many as T20Is, will take place in the UAE in August-September after the Men in Green return from their scheduled tour of the West Indies this year.

This would be the first time when Pakistan and Afghanistan will play a bilateral series as the two teams have met in ICC and Asian Cricket Council events so far, but have never played a bilateral series and the sources revealed that the ACB and PCB are planning to play the white-ball games in Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

The source said: “The Afghanistan board is keen to have the series before the World T20 Cup which is in October.”

Meanwhile, the PCB was also reportedly looking at the option of playing the limited-overs series against Afghanistan when the Pakistan side returns from the West Indies in August 2021.

The source revealed, “The plan is for the Pakistan team to stop over in UAE and play the series in August as the Indian cricket board is also likely to host the remaining matches of its unfinished Indian Premier League in the UAE sometime in September-October.”

He concluded, “And a number of Afghan players including their captain, Rashid Khan, Nabi, Mujeeb ur Rehman and a few others take part in the IPL for different teams.”

Noteworthy, Pakistan will also reportedly host the New Zealand cricket team for a series in September.
