With the Asia Cup set to be officially postponed for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the multi-nation marquee event is likely to take place in consecutive years in 2022 and 2023.

The T20 tournament has not been hosted since 2018. Asia Cup 2021 was set to take place in June this year in Sri Lanka after the tournament was postponed last year due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

However, this year too, the quadrennial event has once again been put on the backburner due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the Asian countries, as well as, packed international calendar this year.

Now, it has emerged that the Asia Cup will be held in consecutive years – in 2022 and 2023, although, the marquee event is usually played every two years.

The ESPNcricinfo report also suggested that Pakistan is likely to host the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup with Sri Lanka hosting the multi-nation event in 2023.

Noteworthy, Asia Cup was last staged in the UAE in September 2018 and India won the trophy for the second time in a row and for a record 7th time by defeating Bangladesh in a low-scoring final.
