Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will reportedly miss the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) to play the country’s Dhaka Premier League (DPL) starting on May 31.
Shakib was one of three Bangladesh cricketers alongside Liton Das and Mahmudullah were signed by the different franchises for the remainder of the PSL 2021 which is likely to be held in the UAE from June 1.
The experienced all-rounder was picked by the PSL side Lahore Qalandars while Mahmudullah and Liton were signed by the Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings respectively for the PSL 06 – which was postponed 14 matches into the season after COVID-19 cases emerged inside the bio-bubble in March.
The Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC), one of the teams participating in Bangladesh’s DPL, has revealed that Shakib had submitted a letter to the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) that he is keen to play for the side this season instead of the PSL 2021.
Tarikul Islam Tito, a top official of the MSC, told Cricbuzz: “We have submitted a letter signed by Shakib to CCDM that says he is keen to take part in the competition for us.”
The official further added, “He will not play in the PSL and instead opted to be part of our team in DPL. He is a free player because he was not part of the 2019-20 DPL due to his ban and now as he is eligible to take part and we have shown our keenness to take him on our side. BCB is yet to grant him for us but we hope to get the permission soon.”
Mahmudullah and Liton's chances of playing the PSL 06 also look slim as it is being said that clubs are not likely to give the Bangladesh players permission to take part in any other tournament at the expense of their own competition that was postponed last year due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
