Team India opener Prithvi Shaw who was dropped from the side after the first Test match against Australia in Adelaide, was also not picked for the Indian team leaving for the England tour to play the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and a five-match Test series against England.

In the last Test match Shaw played, he could only muster 2 runs in the second innings along with a duck in the first innings. Former India pacer Ashish Nehra was not happy with the decision of benching the right-hand batsman and felt that he should’ve been give more opportunities.

“As far as technique is concerned, for any player it is difficult to adjust. Even during the Adelaide Test, he wasn't a player who had a lot of experience or played 30-40 Test matches. We were talking about a youngster. To drop him on the basis of one Test match was tough,” Nehra told Cricbuzz.

The 21-year-old had struggled for form in last year’s IPL as well as he got a couple of half centuries in the first two matches but then was struggling to get going and registered three ducks. After the Australian tour, he had a great Vijay Hazare trophy 2020/21 as he scored over 800 runs in the tournament to regain his form.

Even then Nehra felt that Delhi Capitals (DC) shouldn’t have dropped the opener.

“Even during last year's IPL, I felt he shouldn't have been dropped. He played a few good innings but couldn't score runs. But I will always back a player who has more runs than Rahane, when you talk of T20 cricket,” he said.

“I'm not saying that Rahane is not a good player, but in T20 cricket you need explosive players like Shaw, Pant, Stoinis and Hetmyer,” the left-arm quick added.
