AFG v ZIM 2021: Rashid Khan bowls 99.2 overs in 2nd Test; creates record for most overs bowled in 21st century

Rashid achieved this record in the second Test match against Zimbabwe.

Afghanistan's leg-spinner Rashid Khan on Sunday (March 14) bowled the most number of overs in a single Test match in the 21st century. He created the record in the ongoing second Test against Zimbabwe at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. 

Rashid bowled 36.3 overs in the first innings and 62.5 overs in the second innings of Zimbabwe, which made a total of 99.2 overs in the entire match.

This is the most number of overs bowled by a bowler in a Test match since 1998. It was Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan in 1998 who had bowled 113.5 overs against England at The Oval.

Rashid has picked up 11 wickets in the match, which is his second 10-wicket haul in Test cricket. His bowling figures in the second innings of 7/137 is his best till now in an innings.

The 22-year-old's bowling effort put Afghanistan in a winning position in the second Test. With 108 runs needed to win the match, they achieved the target for the loss of four wickets to draw the series 1-1.
