WI v SL 2021: Sri Lanka's Lahiru Kumara tests positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka fast bowler Lahiru Kumara, who was named in the white-ball squad for the West Indies tour has been tested positive for COVID-19. 

Sri Lanka cricket team is set for a long tour against West Indies starting from March 3. They are slated to play 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is matches against the West Indies. The team is set to leave for the Caribbean on February 23.

However, ahead of their departure for West Indies pacer Lahiru Kumara, who was named in the Sri Lankan squad for the two white-ball series against West Indies, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Addressing the same Sri Lanka Cricket released an official statement that said that Lahiru Kumara has now been instructed to follow the COVID-19 protocols laid down by the Sri Lankan government. 

“Following PCR Tests carried out on the squad nominated to take part in the ‘White Ball’ segment of the Tour of West Indies, Lahiru Kumara has tested Positive for Covid-19,” Sri Lanka Cricket Board released in an official statement. 

Talking about their departure Sri Lanka Board said that rest of the Sri Lankan squad will follow the original schedule and leave for the West Indies on Tuesday morning.

"Sri Lanka Cricket will continue with normal operations, adhering to the stipulated Health protocols,” it said.
