Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has on Thursday (February 4) suffered a fresh injury while fielding on day 2 of the ongoing first Test of the two-match Test series against the West Indies at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

The veteran cricketer, who was playing his comeback Test match following the one-year ban by the ICC, had just recovered in time for the first Test from the groin injury that he sustained in the third ODI against West Indies, but unfortunately ended up re-injured himself again.

After scoring 68 runs to help Bangladesh post 430 runs in the first innings, the 33-year-old was forced to leave the field after bowling just six overs in the ongoing first Test on Day 3 in Chattogram.

Shakib seemed to have suffered a blow in his groin while attempting to stop a ball with his leg after West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite pushed it towards mid-on for a single during the sixth over of the West Indies' innings after Tea on Thursday.

However, the all-rounder continued playing and bowled three more overs but left the field after completing his sixth as he was seen in discomfort on the field.

Later, the ace all-rounder was taken to the hospital for a scan on Friday morning after his old groin injury seemingly resurfaced following a blow and now Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that he suffered a strain in “a different region of his left thigh”.

Recently, he had an injury on his left side of his groin.

The BCB said in a statement: “Having recovered from his previous groin injury ahead of the first Test and successfully managing to bat in the Bangladesh first innings as well as send down six overs, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has suffered a strain in a different region of his left thigh while fielding on day two.”

The statement further reads: “The injury was confirmed by an MRI scan this morning. The BCB medical team will continue to treat and review his progress over the course of the first Test.”
