Former Indian batsman and Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre has been asked to work closely with young opener Prithvi Shaw to help the youngster rectify the errors in his game.

Prithvi Shaw’s career has been a roller coaster ride. After leading the India U-19 team to the World cup win in 2018, the now 21-year-old Mumbai batsman made his Test debut with a bang and hammered a century against West Indies.

However, after his eye-catching performance on debut, he missed out on some matches due to an injury he suffered in Australia on 2018-19 tour and then suffered a ban from the BCCI for failing a drug test.

Following COVID 19 pandemic break, Shaw’s fortunes have taken a tumble as he failed drastically in IPL 2020 in UAE and then his problems got compounded by his failures with the moving pink ball in Australia.

Amidst his failure, Shaw was dropped from the side after the first Test of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar trophy in Adelaide and was replaced by Shubman Gill, who impressed everyone with his elegant stroke-play and kept his spot ahead of Shaw for the England home Test matches.

However, with domestic cricket resuming, Shaw might be in consideration for Mumbai’s squad which is why his IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals management, has asked Pravin Amre to work closely with Shaw to help the youngster rectify the errors in his game.

Inferring the same Pravin Ambre said he was delighted with DC management and is trying to understand what shaw needs at moment.

"I am delighted that the Delhi Capitals management has taken this decision to work with their players even during the non-IPL period. Usually, most teams, except Mumbai Indians, only work with their players a month before the IPL," Amre told Mid-Day.

"I’ve known Prithvi from my Air India days, so the bonding is there. We are trying to understand what he needs at the moment rather than telling him what to do." Pravin Amre told Mid-Day.

Pravin Amre believes that Shaw needs help and with no red-ball matches around they have started working on his white-ball cricket.

"I too believe that Prithvi needs some help. Since there are no red-ball matches now, we’ve started working on his white-ball cricket. Once he goes into the bubble with the Mumbai team either for the Ranji Trophy or Vijay Hazare, we won’t have time to work together," he said.

Amre further admitted that Shaw requires to fine tune his batting and asserts that fitness is one of the key areas he is keen to work on.

"It’s good to see that he’s also keen to work on his batting. We have been analysing his videos. There won’t be any compulsion on him. It will all depend on his agreement to work on certain aspects of his game. But definitely, we are working on his skill and fitness." he concluded.
