West Indies batsman Shai Hope and brother Kyle test positive for COVID-19

The Hope brothers will miss out the upcoming CG Insurance Super50 Cup in Antigua.

West Indies cricketer Shai Hope and his brother Kyle Hope have been tested positive for COVID-19. Both of them are now ruled out of the Barbados squad ahead of the Regional Super50 Cup.

The Barbados Cricket Association issued a statement and confirmed Hope brothers will miss the tournament, starting February 7. Kyle and Shai will be insolation following the local government's protocols.

“The Hope brothers, Shai and Kyle, have tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss the Cricket West Indies (CWI) CG Insurance Super50 Cup in Antigua, February 7 to 27,” the Barbados Cricket Association said in a statement.

“Shai and Kyle Hope will be placed in isolation in accordance with Government of Barbados protocols,” it added.

The Hope brothers are replaced by wicketkeeper Tevyn Walcott and Zachary McCaskie in the 15-man squad. The players were tested on Sunday (January 24) ahead of the tournament starting next week in Antigua.

The domestic one-day tournament features six teams; Barbados Pride, Guyana Jaguars, Jamaica Scorpions, Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, and the Windward Islands Volcanoes. Each team will play each other on a round-robin before deciding the top four teams for the semi-finals.
