Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Tuesday (January 5) confirmed that the upcoming three-match One Day International series, which is a part of the ICC World Cup Super League between Afghanistan and Ireland, will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this January 2021.

The ACB also confirmed that the Afghanistan squad has left for the UAE on Tuesday after they were granted visas by the authorities for the upcoming ODI series against Ireland.

Sheikh Zayed Stadium was initially considered the venue for the ODI series, but there was no clarity about it since the UAE temporarily suspended visas for the 13 countries due to COVID-19 and even the ACB considered shifting the ODI series to the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Muscat, Oman.

However, after a virtual meeting between the boards, the UAE has decided to grant the visas to Afghanistan players for the upcoming ODI series since the Ireland team is already in the UAE for a four-match ODI series against the home team starting January 8.

Confirming Abu Dhabi as the venue for the three ODIs on January 18, 21, and 23, the ACB shared a couple of pictures on Twitter before their departure for the UAE for the Ireland series.
