Former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed was not surprised with the national team’s performance in New Zealand as he blamed the national team management and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for choosing the men for the coaching staff who don't have any coaching experience.
Aaqib, the head coach of Lahore Qalandars franchise in Pakistan Super League (PSL), believes that Misbah-ul-Haq – Pakistan head coach and bowling Coach Waqar Younis are not suitable for the job.
He further went on to criticize Misbah as Pakistan is yet to have any remarkable result under his coaching, saying the former captain wouldn't get a coaching job even with a school side.
His comments came after Pakistan finished the New Zealand tour comprising 3 T20Is and 2 Test with a win in only the third and final T20I and suffered massive defeats in both Tests.
He has underlined that Pakistan’s situation will only improve with professional coaches in the side while blaming poor coaching and management decisions for the team’s Disappointing tour of New Zealand.
Aaqib said: “I think the people who gave the coaching jobs to Misbah and Waqar Younis should be held accountable as both of these former players don't have any coaching experience.”
The 1992 World Cup-winning pacer further noted that playing cricket and coaching a team are two different things and the right qualifications and experience are a must for coaching in modern-day cricket, saying the administrators were not aware of the ground realities in Pakistan cricket.
Aaqib further added, “Looking at Misbah's coaching, I don't think even a school will give him this job. Professional coaches should be with the team, only then the situation will improve.”
The 48-year-old had previously served as Pakistan bowling coach and also coached the Pakistan U-19 team to the ICC World Cup title apart from coaching the UAE national team in ICC events. However, Aaqib has insisted that he had no ambitions of getting a job with the PCB.
He signed off by saying, “If I wanted a job I wouldn't be so outspoken. I will never coach the national teams because I think there is a lack of respect for individuals in the current PCB system.”
