With the ICC T20 World Cup set to be held in India next year, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah set out on an inspection of the world's first high-tech cricket stadium in Chandigarh on Tuesday (December 1), as the facility is likely to be ready for the international games in March 2021.
The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) is creating the world-class cricket stadium in Mullanpur on the outskirts of Chandigarh – which is three times bigger than the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
Mullanpur High-tech International Cricket Stadium is the world’s first high-tech cricket stadium that has been built under the Green Building Concept with several unique facilities.
The news stadium has a movable screen behind the wicket, a special drainage system to make the pitch ready for play in half an hour as soon as the rain stops, a transparent roof for fans, and most importantly it has seven international pitches.
The work of Mullanpur stadium has been completed by 90% and is expected to be fully ready in March 2021 and if it would happen, then some matches of the T20 World Cup 2021 can be held here.
Meanwhile, Shah inspected the Mullanpur facilities along with PCA president Rajinder Gupta and Secretary Puneet Bali. The BCCI Secretary also visited another cricket ground under UTCA in Chandigarh.
Bali told PTI: “Mr. Shah spent some time at the new facility, which he inspected.”
Noteworthy, Shah had visited Sector 16 Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh on Monday evening that is under the Chandigarh Union Territory Sports Department.
