However, Suryakumar displayed immaculate focus and determination to continue piling up more runs for Mumbai Indians (MI).

In an exclusive chat with PTI, MI skipper Rohit Sharma spoke about Surya’s composure while dealing with India rejection.

“We were sitting in our team room and I could feel he was dejected. But I didn’t go and speak to him. It was he who came up and said, ‘Don’t worry I will get over it and win the matches for MI’,” Rohit revealed.

Since the selection snub, the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Ravi Shastri among others have asked Surya to remain patient and wait for his opportunity.

Rohit also holds the same sentiment and feels that the 30-year-old will represent India in a lot of games.

“And when he said that I also realised he is heading in the right direction not only in terms of IPL but in his overall career. There are a lot of India games and his time will come. If you ask me, my philosophy is mind over matter and that’s what works for me,” he said.

Suryakumar Yadav finished the IPL 2020 with 480 runs from 16 matches at a strike rate of 145.01 with 4 half-centuries.
