India cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar has donated medical equipment to a charitable hospital in Assam's Karimganj district on Sunday. Extending his support to unprivileged families, he donated the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to the Makunda hospital.

"We are very thankful to Sachin Tendulkar’s foundation. We receive a lot of very rare cases and the pediatric surgical facilities in the North East are very limited.

"In the past 20 years, we are the main pediatric surgical facility of entire Northeast India, and patients from all the NE states are coming here. We are thankful to Sachin Tendulkar’s foundation that they have decided to give us a very costly machine and other medical equipment," Ismael said.

Vijay Anand further said now the hospital can provide a good service at a low cost to the needy people of the area.

Makunda hospital is located in the Patharkandi area in Karimganj district, which is near the Assam-Mizoram border. Sachin's donation will help 2000 children from poor families.

Earlier, the Sachin Tendulkar foundation helped in providing nutrition and education to tribal communities in Madhya Pradesh. He is the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia.
