West Indian star cricketer Marlon Samuels has decided to end his career as a professional cricketer and move into the next innings of his life. Cricket West Indies (CWI) chief executive Johnny Grave confirmed that the cricketer had revealed his decision to CWI in June 2020, according to an ESPNCricInfo report.

The 39-year-old swashbuckling batsman was known to stand up for West Indies when it mattered the most. He top-scored for the national side in the two T20 World Cup finals where they ended up on the winning side each time.

In 2012, Samuels scored a 56-ball 78 when the rest of the batsmen could manage only 59 runs. In 2016, he remained unbeaten on 85 off just 66 balls and helped the Men In Maroon chase down 156.

Warne and Vaughan slam Marlon Samuels for his derogatory remarks on Stokes and his wife

The Jamaican has been marred by controversies on and off the field. His tiffs with England's Ben Stokes and former Australian cricketer Shane Warne took an ugly turn recently, two years after playing his last international game.

Focusing on Samuel's performances on the field, he made his international debut way back in 2000. He scored 3917 Test runs, 5606 ODI runs and 1611 T20I runs for West Indies.

He finishes his career as one of the ten men to score over 10,000 international runs for West Indies. Despite all these numbers, he will be remembered as the man who helped West Indies win two T20 World Cups.
