While social media can be used for good, like in the case of ‘Baba ka Dhaba’, where users helped out an elder couple who ran a food stall and were facing hardships due to COVID-19 lockdown; some of the users shamed the cricketing community after CSK lost a close game to KKR the other night.
Some smart captaincy and cricket from KKR left CSK gasping for breath in the last 10 overs of their 168-run chase. MS Dhoni failed to marshal the troops and was dismissed by Varun for 11 when Super Kings needed another 38 runs in 21 deliveries, which they failed to score.
This led to a few unruly CSK fans take to social media, especially MS Dhoni’s Instagram account, and posted horrible messages for the former India captain and his family as well. The vilest of all messages were a threat to assault his five-year-old daughter Ziva.
Apart from that, there were levels of abuse hurled at Dhoni and Ziva, which were screenshotted and shared on Twitter and other platforms.
This abuse and vileness on social media from hate-filled cricket followers led to former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan to rebuke those who posted such comments and condemned such behavior. He tweeted, “All the players giving their best, sometimes it just doesn’t work but it’s doesn’t give anyone any authority to give a threat to a young child #mentality #respect”
