The Delhi Capitals have a strong wicketkeeper-batsman in the form of Rishabh Pant, who has scored 171 runs so far this season with a strike rate close to 140.

His exceptional ability with the bat has made former Indian cricketers Ashish Nehra and Sanjay Bangar believe that the left-hander should be the replacement for MS Dhoni in Team India.

The former Indian batsman and batting coach Sanjay Bangar not only cited Pant's ability as the gloves as his strong point but also the fact that India will have a left-hander in their middle order.

Bangar said on a Star Sports show, "In terms of wicket-keeping, I think it would be Rishabh Pant. I think the way he started this year's IPL and I think it is very important to have a left-hander as an option because for Team India when it comes to the middle-order as it helps to balance out the right-handers."

Former Indian bowler and ex-RCB bowling coach Ashish Nehra agreed with Bangar and also stated that the youngster from Delhi should be backed at the international level.

"I am in total agreement with Sanjay Bangar. I think they should go ahead with Rishabh Pant. Pant should be backed. Every player needs to be backed when it comes to international cricket," Nehra added.

MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on 15 August 2020, more than a year after playing his last international game.

In the recent white-ball matches for Team India, KL Rahul has donned the gloves and has done an excellent job. His performances with the bat have added some merit to his place in the national side.
