Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah’s terms as BCCI president and secretary recently came to an end but the Supreme Court, which was slated to hear the board’s appeal to do away with the cooling-off period on August 17, has not even listed the matter

Both Ganguly and Shah are likely to continue in their roles till the apex court gives a final judgment.

The Supreme Court was due to hear the matter on July 22 but the two-member bench comprising Arvind Bobde and L. Nageswara Rao decided to hear the BCCI matter on August 17. However, the matter was not listed by the apex court.

In the latest development, Ganguly has said that he has neither any intention to overstay or challenge anything.

"If the court tells us to go, matter ends there for me and Jay (Shah)," the former India skipper stated in an interaction with Outlook.

The new BCCI constitution based on justice RM Lodha committee's reforms says, “any person who has been an office bearer in state as well as BCCI for consecutive period of six years will have to go for compulsory cooling off period of three years.”

Notably, Ganguly was the secretary and later President of the Cricket Association of Bengal for five-plus years before taking charge as BCCI boss in October 2019.

On the other hand, Shah has previously served as the secretary of Gujarat Cricket Association for more than five years.

Ganguly, on his part, sees nothing wrong in appealing to the Supreme Court as he believes everybody has an opportunity to go to the court.

"We could be right, wrong, good or bad, everyone can appeal to the highest body in the country. If they (the judges) allow, you stay or if they don't, you just go...it's as simple as that," said Ganguly.
