A Congress MLA from Madhya Pradesh on Monday (August 16) termed MS Dhoni as 'great jewel of the country' and demanded the highest civilian award i.e. Bharat Ratna for the former Indian skipper.
The Bhopal-based MLA PC Sharma’s comments came just a day after Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket.

Taking to Twitter, Sharma said Dhoni took Indian cricket to greater heights and thus he should be bestowed with the highest civilian honour.
His tweet which was posted in Hindi can be translated into: "Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the 'great jewel of the country', who has established the victory of Indian cricket all over the world, should be honoured with the Bharat Ratna."
Team India tasted huge success under Dhoni’s captaincy, winning the 2007 World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. He also led the team to pinnacle in Test cricket.
As a batsman, Dhoni transformed himself into one of the greatest finishers of the game. He represented the country in 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is, aggregating more than 17000 international runs including 16 centuries.
The former India captain also has 634 catches and 195 stumpings (world record) to his name across three formats.
