Pakistan batsman Khushdil Shah has been ruled out of action for the three weeks following a fracture on his left thumb, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Sunday (July 19).

The left-handed Khushdil, who has played a single T20I for Men in Green so far, suffered the injury while batting during Saturday’s (July 18) training session in Derby.

Khushdil has been now rested from the remainder of the ongoing four-day intra-squad match and will not be available for selection for the second four-dayer as well, which is set to be played from July 24-27. However, the 25-year-old cricketer will be able to resume his training from next week.

PCB said in a statement: “Left-handed batsman Khushdil Shah has been ruled out for up to three weeks after suffering a fracture in his left thumb while batting during Saturday's training session in Derby.”

It further reads: “Khushdil is not featuring in the ongoing four-day intra-squad match and will not be available for selection for the second four-dayer, which will be played from 24-27 July in Derby. As the nail is intact and there is no injury to nail bed, the orthopedic surgeon, team physician, and team physiotherapist expect Khushdil to resume physical training by the end of the next week.”

Noteworthy, Pakistan is currently playing a four-day intra-squad match as part of its preparation for the upcoming three-match Test series begins at Old Trafford on 5 August against England. They will also play a three-match T20I series following the Test series in England next month.
