Fast bowlers will have to be extra careful after lengthy COVID-19 hiatus: Irfan Pathan

Indian cricketers are yet to hit the ground running with a proper camp in wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Indian pacers are slowly but steadily getting back to outdoor training | InstagramWhile the international cricket resumed with the England-West Indies Test series on July 8, Team India are yet to hit the ground running with a proper camp in wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

No wonder, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan reckons the fast bowlers will take at least four to six weeks to get back into rhythm.

Even though there is no clarity about India’s next fixture yet, top pacers are slowly but steadily getting back to training.

Recently, Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav took to social media and shared photos, videos of their outdoor training.

"To be honest, I am really worried about the fast bowlers," Pathan said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

"Going forward, they might need 4-6 weeks to get going themselves. It's a tough job and if you are bowling 140-150 kmph, running about 25 yards to bowl one ball at a time and then keep bowling for a few overs.

"Your body gets stiff, injury management will be key as well because I think for any fast bowler to get back into the rhythm, it takes at least 4-6 weeks, so I think fast bowlers will have to be a little more careful than the spinners or the batsmen," he added.

Team India were last seen in action during the tour of New Zealand in February-March. While there is no clarity on their upcoming fixture in the immediate future, one thing is certain that the team will tour Australia at the end of the year to play four Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
