The BCCI is awaiting a final call from the ICC on the T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia in order to start preparing for the IPL 2020. The cash-rich T20 league was postponed back in March as the COVID-19 pandemic started to spread in the whole world, putting a stop to all international travel.

As per reports floating in the media, the IPL 2020 may be shifted to a foreign location given that India’s COVID-19 cases crossed 10 lakh with over 26,000 people dead.

The United Arab Emirates has emerged as the front runner for hosting the tournament given their past experience in 2014, less number of active cases in the location and world-class travel and boarding facilities, plus even crowds might be allowed in stadiums.

This all makes UAE the best chance for IPL 2020 to happen this year. Not only, IPL, but the BCCI is also looking to hold the Indian team’s training camp in Emirates, with Dharamsala and Ahmedabad being the other options.

Indian cricketers, who have not played since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, could well resume their training in Dubai, the likelihood of which will increase significantly if the UAE gets to host the cash-rich league.

"If the IPL is held in the UAE, then it only makes sense the Indian cricketers train there before the tournament. They have a good infrastructure in place. UAE is the most likely choice for the IPL with India getting increasingly unsafe (due to COVID-19)," a BCCI official told PTI.
