Reeza Hendricks appointed captain of Kingfishers for '3TCricket' match to support 'Black Lives Matter' campaign

Reeza Hendricks appointed captain of Kingfishers for '3TCricket' match to support 'Black Lives Matter' campaign

Hendricks has played 21 ODIs and 23 T20Is for South Africa.

Reeza Hendricks | APCricket South Africa (CSA) appointed Reeza Hendricks as one of the captains for the '3TCricket' match to be played for the Solidarity Cup in support of the ongoing 'Black Lives Matter' campaign.

The 30-year-old right-hand batsman, Henricks, will be leading OUTsurance Kingfishers for the encounter to be contested by three teams at the Supersport Park in Centurion on Saturday (July 18).

"The decision came after organizers recognized and acknowledged the importance to walk the talk in matters of transformation and taking the lead from Cricket South Africa's own policies and firm stance and support of the Black Lives Matter movement,"  said CSA via a media release on its website.

Originally, Kagiso Rabada was to lead Kingfishers. But the pacer had to pull out of the match due to the unfortunate demise of his family member.

Played on great Nelson Mandela's birth anniversary, the Solidarity Cup will not only help South African cricketers provide a meaningful gesture to further spread awareness on the need to eradicate racism, a deep-rooted social issue, but also give them time in the middle after a lengthy break due to COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is important to stand by our convictions and to set the right example in everything we do. Cricket South Africa stands for equal opportunity and showcasing our country’s talent and its diversity," said CSA acting CEO, Jacques Faul.

“Mistakes will happen from time to time, but it is important for us to acknowledge them when they do and do our level best to redress matters in the most effective and honest manner possible."

“We are confident that tomorrow’s match, which will benefit so many fellow South Africans and cricket community members who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, will be the first of many successful matches of this kind and we look forward to a dazzling return to cricket as our player look to put their best competitive foot forward," Faul added.

The squads for 3TC are:-

OUTsurance Kingfishers: Reeza Hendricks (captain), Heinrich Klaasen, Janneman Malan, Faf du Plessis, Thando Ntini, Gerald Coetzee, Glenton Stuurman, Tabraiz Shamsi. Coach: Mignon du Preez.

Mr D Food Kites: Quinton De Kock (captain), Temba Bavuma, Jon-Jon Smuts, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius, Lutho Sipamla, Beuran Hendricks, Anrich Nortje. Coach: Wandile Gwavu.

Takealot Eagles: AB de Villiers (captain), Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne, Andile Phehlukwayo, Bjorn Fortuin, Junior Dala, Lungi Ngidi. Coach: Geoffrey Toyana.

The match will see each eight-member team batting 12 overs, divided into two equal halves, with the rule that the last man standing can bat alone but score only in even numbers.

Following the break after 18 overs, in the second half, teams will bat in order of the highest scores in the first half. In case the scores are tied, the first half order will be reversed.

The team that makes the most number of runs after both halves, wins the match.
