As Real Madrid clinched a record-extending 34th La Liga title at an empty Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium on Thursday (July 16), India’s white-ball vice-captain and star opener Rohit Sharma congratulated the club by calling it “good news in a year that is severely lacking any”.

On Thursday night, the Real Madrid wrapped up the Spanish title – their first league title since the 2016-17 season by beating Villarreal 2-1 at home thanks to two goals from their leading scorer Karim Benzema with one game to spare this season.

With 86 points and an unassailable seven-point lead after 37 games, Madrid will head into the final against the second-placed Barcelona on 19 July.

Following the victory, Rohit – who is La Liga's brand ambassador in India as well as an ardent Real Madrid supporter, took to his official social media handle to congratulate the Madrid based Spanish professional football club on their record title win.

Sharing a happy picture of himself, the star cricketer wrote on Instagram: “Another title in the bag. Real Madrid truly came together as a team during these tough times. Congratulations! Finally, some good news in a year that is severely lacking any. #No34 #HalaMadrid @LaLiga @realmadrid.”

Meanwhile, as usual, Rohit’s Team India teammate Yuzvendra Chahal took it as another opportunity to troll the opening batsman yet again on social media since the two often involved in online banters.

With his funny comment on Rohit’s post, Chahal yet again left fans in splits, as wrote in the comment bix: “True Reason behind this smile is aaj ghar ka kaam nahi karna padhega no jhaadu no pochaa phew ???? ???? @rohitsharma45 #holidaymodeon ????”

Noteworthy, Chahal and Rohit both like other Indian players have been confined to their homes since March due to the Coronavirus pandemic and are eagerly waiting to return to the field.
