Young India opener Prithvi Shaw is touted to be the next big thing in Indian cricket after he made a brilliant start to his international career in 2018 and Wasim Jaffer also believes that the young star is “special player” who has all that’s required to become a big player for Team India.
The right-hander created a lot of buzz when he broke into the international scene in October 2018 against West Indies and became the second-youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to make a Test century and the youngest Indian to do so on Test debut.

Even at a very young age, Shaw began to draw comparisons from Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, thanks to his flamboyance and ability to dominate bowling attacks and to go after the new-ball bowlers.
Following the debut show, the young batting star attracted significant attention from both media, cricket experts, and former cricketers, but soon the young sensation’s fledging career suffered a major setback due to the ankle injury and the doping ban that was a tough period for the youngster.
The new prodigy in Indian cricket spent a part of 2019 serving a back-dated 8-month ban for a doping violation. However, he was given a lifeline to revive his nascent career during India’s New Zealand tour earlier this year following a tumultuous period.

And India's former domestic batting giant Jaffer believes that Shaw needs to fine-tune certain aspects of his game if he wants a long career with the Indian team. He further added that Shaw reminds him of Sehwag due to his flair with which he plays shots but suggested a bit of improvement in certain areas.
Jaffer told Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel: “I think he is a special player, without a doubt. The shots he hits, if he gets going, he has the ability of Virender Sehwag I feel.”
He further added, “He can completely demolish an attack. But somewhere I feel he needs to understand his game better, where he needs to take a backseat. I feel he got found out a little bit in New Zealand, got dismissed two times off a short delivery. He fell into their trap.”
Wasim signed off by saying, “I also feel that he needs to get more disciplined in his off-field life. Because I feel he has the game to succeed at the international level. But he needs to be a lot more disciplined outside cricket also.”
Noteworthy, since making a debut, the right-hander has so far played 4 Tests and scored 335 runs with the help of 2 fifties and one hundred at an average of over 55. Earlier this year, the Mumbai star made his ODI debut in New Zealand and went on to play 3 ODIs for India on that tour.
