Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (July 8), Root has confirmed that he and his wife Cotterell have welcomed their second child. He also shared an adorable picture of him with his baby resting on his left arm while his right arm was wrapped around his three-year-old son Alfred William.

Root and Carrie became the parents for the first time in 2017 when their first son Alfred was born a year after the couple tied the knot. Last week, he decided to skip the first Test between England and West Indies which is being played in Southampton to attend the birth of his second child.

The captain also wished “good luck” to the England cricket team for their first Test against West Indies while saying the entire Root family “will be watching and supporting them all the way!”.

He captioned the post: “Good luck boys @englandcricket We will be watching and supporting you all the way! #cricketisback”

Noteworthy, in the absence of Root, England is being led by Ben Stokes in Southampton’s bio-secure environment with no spectators against the West Indies.

Stokes won the toss after some delay due to the rain and has elected bat first. Well, Root will join the England team soon to lead the side in the second Test match next week.
