Rohit Sharma is widely regarded as one of the most skilled batsmen in contemporary cricket. The stylish right-hander has quite a few world records to his name. He is the proud owner of the highest individual ODI score — 264 (against Sri Lanka in 2014) and is the only batsman in the history of cricket to have scored three ODI double tons and four Twenty20 international centuries.

Apart from his exploits in white-ball cricket for India, Rohit has led Mumbai Indians to record four IPL titles after becoming the captain in 2013. 

Sharma is also one of the most valuable players in the cash-rich event and during the IPL 2020 trading and transfer window, the Mumbai franchise retained him for a whopping ₹15 crore ($2.1 million).

Interestingly, Rohit’s IPL salary is more than double the amount of the annual earnings of Pakistan’s top 18 centrally contracted cricket players.

According to a list unveiled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in May, the board placed 18 of its cricketers in central contracts for the 2020-21 season. The PCB named white-ball skipper Babar Azam along with Azhar Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi in Grade A, and these players are set to acquire yearly income of approximately ₹60,92,050 lakh ($81,576).

Asad Shafiq, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Abbas and six others feature in Grade B and their annual earning is in the bracket of ₹41,54,193 ($55,627). The six players in Grade C belong to the annual earning range of ₹30,46,398 ($40,793) per player.

The cumulative annual earnings of all 18 centrally contracted Pakistani cricketers combined amounts to ₹7.4 crore (nearly $1 million), which is almost half of Rohit Sharma’s IPL salary.
