ENG v WI 2020: Sam Curran tests COVID-19 negative after bout of diarrhoea, set to rejoin training

Curran had gone into self-isolation after being found sick on Thursday.

Sam Curran | AFP England all-rounder Sam Curran tested COVID-19 negative after a bout of diarrhoea and sickness, confirmed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday (July 3).

The youngster had gone into self-isolation in his room at the on-site hotel on Thursday after overnight illness, which had forced him out of England's intra-squad match in Southampton ahead of the first Test against West Indies.

The development raised eyebrows, with people fearing whether the virus has found its way into England's bio-secure bubble at the Ageas Bowl, which could've put cricket's return via the three-match Test series versus the Calypso Kings under grave danger.

Thankfully, the 22-year-old Surrey cricketer was declared COVID-19 free after medical assessments, having only joined the squad at the first place after testing negative of the infection.

"England's Sam Curran has tested negative following his COVID-19 test from yesterday (Thursday)," reads an ECB statement.

"The Surrey all-rounder, who had a sickness bug has recovered and is currently missing the intra-group three-day match, which ends today, has been self-isolating in his room at the Ageas Bowl."

"He will now return to training over the next 24-48 hours and will be closely monitored by the team doctor."
