Peter Fulton has stepped down from his position of the Black Caps’ batting coach in order to become the head coach of the Canterbury men’s cricket team.
On Thursday (July 2), New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has confirmed that Fulton has quit as team’s batting coach to take the head coach’s job of Canterbury cricket side, while congratulating Fulton on the appointment and wishing him success for his new role as his new stint set to start from August 1.
NZC general manager, high performance, Bryan Stronach said: “Pete's a respected figure who has contributed a lot to the BLACKCAPS set-up and built strong relationships in his time with the team.”
Stronach further added, “He's carved an impressive pathway as a coach, from New Zealand Under 19s to the winter training squads and now moving into a head coach role, which we're fully supportive of.
With the BLACKCAPS entering a winter period at home we'll take some time to consider our options in terms of a replacement for Pete.”

Meanwhile, the 41-year-old, who played 49 ODIs, 23 Tests, and 12 T20Is for New Zealand, said he had enjoyed his time with the national team and has also admitted that it was a great honor to be involved with the national team, but Canterbury offer is too good to ignore.
Fulton said in an NZC statement: “It's been an honor to get back involved with the national team and I'd like to thank the players and staff for making me feel so welcome.”
He further added, “The Canterbury role appealed to me in terms of my aspirations to be a head coach and further my development in the game. The chance to spend more time at home with my young family and coach my home province was also motivating factors in applying for the job.”
Noteworthy, the former right-hander was appointed as the batting coach last year and he had worked with the national team on their home series against England and India as well as overseas tours to Sri Lanka and Australia during his stint.
Fulton was also part of the coaching staff for New Zealand Cricket's winter training squad, apart from serving as batting coach for New Zealand Under 19s and coaching Christ's College First XI cricket team. He had also worked with the Canterbury Kings as an assistant coach in the 2018/19 season.
