Racism has become a topic of global debate following the killing of George Floyd – a 46-year-old African-American, who died on May 25 in Minneapolis after Derek Chauvin, a white policeman, knelt on his neck for several minutes.
"Racism is not restricted to the colour of the skin. Not allowing to buy a home in a society just because u have a different faith is a part of racism too," Pathan wrote on Twitter.
When asked if he tweeted out of his personal experience or it was something he observed, Irfan told PTI: "It is an observation and I don't think anyone can deny this."
George Floyd’s death has sparked protests across the United States while the demonstration is being held in various countries in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
International cricketers like Chris Gayle, Daren Sammy, Carlos Brathwaite among others have been vocal supporters of the protests and also opened up about the racism in the game.
Sammy recently alleged that he and Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera were racially abused while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.
