Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has lambasted Mohammad Amir for taking retirement from Test cricket at the age of 27. As per Kaneria, it was the time for Amir to pay back Pakistan cricket for investing in him, especially after coming back from spot-fixing ban.

The left-arm pacer bid adieu to the longest format of the game in July last year in hope of prolonging his white-ball career.

Kaneria took a dig at Amir for preferring T20 leagues around the world over playing Test cricket for Pakistan.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) supported Mohammad Amir but when we needed him in Test cricket, he retired and started focusing on league cricket. Playing for Pakistan is not important for him but league cricket is," Kaneria said in a YouTube video, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Despite a prolonged ban for proven involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal, Mohammad Amir was given a second chance by PCB to resume his international career in 2016.

Overall, Amir represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, taking 119 wickets at an average of 30.47. He played his last Test against South Africa in Johannesburg in January 2019.
